Whangarei Festival of Motorsport
17th March 2016
Whangarei looks forward to welcoming the International Rally of Whangarei (ROW) from Friday 29 April – Sunday 1 May 2016.
This will mark the tenth year Whangarei has provided the fast, cambered, smooth gravel roads of the district, making for an exciting international event as we host rounds of the FIA Asia Pacific Rally Championship (APRC), the New Zealand Rally Championship (NZRC), as well as the favoured Clubman’s event.
As we celebrate and build up to the International Rally of Whangarei, the Whangarei Festival of Motorsport brings together a mixture of events from local clubs and organisations. Although the word ‘motorsport’ brings to mind all sorts of high speed and racing events, we’ve stretched it out to include many facets of the motorsport world, for young and old, for the enthusiasts and the day dreamers, for the fast and the not-so-fast.
There will be chances to get up close at the high speed kart racing, watch the dirt flying at the speedway, enjoy a ride in a sports or classic car, experience the thrill of Rally cars, check out the latest design and graphics of vehicles transformed into works of art, or take on the challenge of a Remote Control Car that moves at speed!
Or if you are up for something different, how about hitting the back country in a four wheel drive?
There are also opportunities to see where the future takes us with electric vehicles, join in a club run, day dream at a Show n Shine, find a bargain at a swap meet or watch as crews work on International Rally cars.
And if you want to get away from it all, pack a picnic, leave the watch and the cell phone at home, and take that road less travelled.
